Strategy coordinates adaptation, mitigation efforts

Written on June 6, 2011 by Seasons End No Comments »

Seeking “common solutions to protect common values,” the National Fish and Wildlife Climate Adaptation Strategy aims to reduce the negative effects of climate change on fish, wildlife, plants, and the natural systems that support them. The collaborative effort of numerous federal, state and tribal agencies and non-governmental organizations is developing a blueprint for maintaining key terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems and sustaining fish, wildlife and plant resources that provide current and future services to communities.

Based on shared principles and science-based practices, the Strategy is spearheaded by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration with support from the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. The Strategy is neither prescriptive nor regulatory, but seeks to integrate and coordinate adaptation and mitigation management planning and activity.

A 24-slide PowerPoint presentation gives an overview of the undertaking. For additional information, visit the National Fish and Wildlife Climate Adaptation Strategy Web site.
